HOW TO DETERMINE IF YOUR INKJET PRINTER USES WATERPROOF INK:

The three steps which follow are very "low-tech" but they work.

1. Print something out on your inkjet printer.
2. Moisten your finger and rub it across some of what you have printed.
3. If it does not smear the ink is waterproof. If it smears the ink is not waterproof.

INKJET PRINTERS WHICH USE WATERPROOF INK:
(Information updated October 21, 2009)

There are many inkjet printers which use waterproof ink. Two economical choices are:

EPSON C88+ This inkjet printer uses Epson's long lasting DURABrite Ultra pigment ink and is under $80 at amazon.com. This is the one Jonathan uses for making color transfers. The ink cartridges are expensive but they are made with real pigment and so they are much more fade-resistant than normal inkjet inks. EPSON STYLUS NX515 WiFi Color Inkjet All-in-One Printer This unit also uses Epson's long lasting DURABrite Ultra pigment ink and, for only $20 more than the C88+ (it is just over $100 at amazon.com), it scans, copies, and prints. The ink cartridges are expensive but they are made with real pigment and so they are much more fade-resistant than normal inkjet inks.
